Paul & Liah’s Jayco Swan Adventure: The Perfect Family Camper

Twelve months ago, Paul and Liah embarked on a new chapter of their camping adventures with the purchase of a Jayco Swan Camper Trailer. As an adventurous couple with two young children, they had spent years camping in a rooftop tent, but as their family grew, they knew they needed something more practical.

Why the Jayco Swan?

Paul and Liah considered a variety of options, from caravans to hybrid campers, but ultimately, the Jayco Swan was the perfect fit. They wanted something lightweight, easy to tow, and quick to set up, especially for short stays.

“We originally had a dual-fold, canvas-style camper trailer, but it was too much work to put up and down,” Paul explained. “We move around a lot and often stay just one night in each spot, so having a quick and easy setup was essential. The Swan was the perfect choice—it sits below the height of our four-wheel drive when towing and is super easy to set up.”

Family-Friendly Features

For Liah, the indoor kitchen was a game-changer. “I get bitten by mosquitoes easily, so having a kitchen inside was a big priority. Plus, with two young kids, the extra comfort and space in the Swan makes camping much easier.”

Paul also shared that their Jayco Swan Outback has given them more freedom to explore off-road locations. “It allows us to go to places we wouldn’t be able to with a touring model, which has been amazing for our adventures.”

Memorable Camping Trips

Since purchasing their Jayco Swan, Paul and Liah have explored some breathtaking locations across Western Australia. Their first major trip as a family of four was a five-night stay in Hamelin Bay, where they introduced their three-month-old baby to the joys of camping. They’ve also visited Wave Rock and enjoyed exploring Margaret River through hip camps.

“We’re not originally from WA, so every trip is an adventure. Everywhere we go is somewhere new, and that’s what we love about it,” Paul said. Looking ahead, their 2025 plans include a bucket list trip to Coral Bay and Ningaloo.

Camping Made Easy

When it comes to setting up camp, the ease of the Jayco Swan is a standout feature. “I usually take care of the kids while Paul does the setup. Now that our two-year-old is getting older, he tries to help wind up the camper too,” Liah laughed. “But that’s exactly why we chose the Swan—Paul can set it up on his own without any hassle.”

One piece of advice they’d give to other families? Opt for the wind-up awning instead of the bag awning for an easier setup.

Camping Essentials & Traditions

Paul and Liah always pack their camp oven, cast iron jaffle maker, and frypan, as they love cooking over a campfire whenever possible. They also bring games to enjoy once the kids are in bed, making sure to carve out some quality time together while away.

Would They Recommend the Jayco Swan?

“Absolutely!” Paul said without hesitation. “It’s a fantastic van for families. The Outback model gives us the flexibility to go off-road and explore places we couldn’t with a bigger caravan.”

For Paul and Liah, their Jayco Swan Camper Trailer has been the perfect companion, offering convenience, comfort, and adventure—all wrapped up in one easy-to-use camper. They’re looking forward to many more years of travel, creating unforgettable memories as a family.
